Sports Psychology

Dr. Declan Aherne is an accredited sports psychologist with the Irish Sports Council.  He has been working in the Mid-west region with high performance sports men and women for the past ten years.  Declan has worked with a number of international golfers, both male and female in that time.  He has given workshops to the Munster Ladies golf team as well as to local golf clubs.  He was sports psychologist to the Heineken Cup Winning Munster team and he is presently sports psychologist to the High performance swim team at UL, which included european medal winner Grainne Murphy.  He works with Olympian Colin Griffin and world kickboxing Champion Colin OShaugnessy.  Declan offers a unique programme of mental skills in sport centred on the principles of mindful practice to enhance all round confidence, concentration and calmness in sports performance.  This approach has proven highly effective when applied to the rigours of golf, one of the most psychologically challenging of all sports
